  • Data Only: Allows cellular-data use, but not voice calls over LTE

However, if your carrier doesn’t support VoLTE and is a GSM carrier, you’ll see one of these options:

  • LTE or 4G: Allows cellular data use over the LTE or 4G network when available.
  • 3G: Allows cellular data use over the 3G network when available.

How to Turn On 5G on iPhone SE (2022)

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options. If you’re using Dual SIM, go to Settings > Cellular and choose the SIM card you want to change. Now you will have the following option:

Voice and Data Mode

5G On: This will turn on 5G when it’s available. This will also reduce your battery life.

LTE: This option when turning on 4G even when 5G is available.

Data Mode

On data mode, you will see the following option to choose from.

Allow More Data on 5G: This will enable higher data-usage features for apps and system tasks. It includes higher-quality FaceTime, high-definition content on Apple TV, Apple Music songs and videos, and iOS updates over cellular. This setting also allows apps to use more cellular data for better performance. This is mostly the default setting for most cellular networks and it uses mode data than others.

Standard: This option allows automatic updates and background tasks on cellular, and it makes use of standard settings for video and FaceTime.

Low Data Mode: This option helps reduce Wi-Fi and cellular data usage by pausing automatic updates and background tasks.

Data Roaming

Many carriers around the world support 5G roaming.  However, if your carrier doesn’t support 5G roaming, you can get cellular data through 4G or LTE networks or buy a local sim card that supports 5G.
