Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha 5G Design

Going by the design, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha is world first smartphone with a curved display that is wrapped around the entire body. You will only notice the tiny vertical strip that houses the camera at the back, while the display surrounds the entire body including the sides and the back. This is a single display panel that is wrapped around the entire body bringing the phone to a higher screen to body ratio of 180.6%! This was possible because of the narrow 2.15mm bezels on the top and the bottom.

The handset offers a new era of all screen 4D surround display. The body is built with a very strong and lightweight Titanium frame. The vertical strip that houses the camera is built with a black precision ceramic material. Furthermore, the triple cameras at the back are protected by the sapphire glass to avoid scratches. The back houses the smartphone antennas and connectivity modules for Wi-Fi and 5G.

That aside, the Mi Mix Alpha is preloaded with a smart solution to tackle various design challenges associated with smartphone design. For example, the company did not build the handset with any button, instead, they make use of pressure-sensitive sides.  This is to say that the side displays can mimic a physical button with the help of powerful haptics (linear motor). You will also get a display acoustic technology for sound output and an ultrasonic proximity sensor.

Since the display cover the sides, you might ask, what about accidental touch? Well, Xiaomi also has a solution for that. They reveal that any accidental touches are avoided using multiple sensors and AI algorithms that predict screen usage behavior. This is to say that the phone essentially deactivates the inactive touch areas to avoid mistouches.
