VLC Chromecast Not Working On MAC & Window: Fixed

VLC has built a new version of the Chromecast VLC 3.0. This means you can now stream video and audio files from VLC media player on your PC to your Chromecast connected to your TV. This features might work perfectly for you. However, others are complaining that it doesn’t and has a problem with some files. How To Stream From VLC to Your Chromecast

To get you started, you will need to download the available and latest version of VLC 3.0 for Windows and Mac. After that, you will need to get a Chromecast device, or an Android TV device like the NVIDIA SHIEL, or better still a TV that uses Android TV as its software. Now make sure the PC or MAC you are using is on the same local network as your Chromecast device, wired or wireless.

Now follow the below method to cast Video from VLC on your PC or Mac.

  • Put on your Chromecast and your television
  • On your VLC, click on playback > Renderer > Scan

  • When your Chromecast appear on the menu, click on it in the list
  • Open the video file and click the play button (you can use the media < open file menu or just locate the
  • video and drop it on to the VLC window)
  • You should now see an “Insecure site” prompt

  • Click “View certificate” to see your Chromecast’s security certificate
  • Now click “Accept Permanently” to accept your Chromecast’s certificate.

After this above method, the video should immediately begin playing on your Chromecast. You can use the controls in the VLC window to pause, fast forward, rewind, and otherwise control playback.
In other to stream the video again, all you need is to use the Playback > Render menu to scan and connect. After that, you can now play video files without accepting the certificate prompt again.

If after following the above method correctly and it still didn’t work for you. Don’t panic, there are still other ways to stream local videos files on your Chromecast. You can use Google Chrome’s built-in casting tool to stream your computer videos to a Chromecast.

All you need to do is to open a chrome tab to any website, then click on the chrome icon, and click cast.

After that you can now select the drop-down menu next to “Cast to,” then replaced the source from the chrome tab to Cast Desktop. After that select your Chromecast or Android TV device.

That’s all. You can now open your VLC and enjoy the videos in a full screen. The little downsides here is that the video quality will be lower than in the above step, this is because Chromecast’s video streaming protocol is more focused on speed rather than quality.
