Share ETA Not Working On Your iPhone? Here’s How To Fix It

One of the best features the iOS 13 comes with is Share ETA. You will know how important this option is when you leave your house in a hurry without letting your friends know the exact time you will meet them.

With this Share Estimated Time Arrival (ETA), you just have to select a contact from the bottom of the maps app to automatically send a message with your destination and arrival time.

This is good right? It even updates them if you get caught in traffic or delayed. The share ETA is one of the features I find appealing on the iOS 13. If this feature is not working on your iPhone below is the troubleshooting.

How To Get ETA On Google Maps

For those that haven’t use the share ETA, below is how to use it.

Step 1: Launch your Apple Maps app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Find the destination and start ‘Drive’ directions.
Step 3: Next tap on Share ETA at the bottom of the screen.
Step 4: You can also swipe up at any time to reveal a Share ETA button.
Step 5: Now select a recent contact or tap Contacts and use the search bar to find someone else. You can even share your ETA with multiple contacts at the same time.
Step 6: You can now go back to the Share ETA screen from the Maps menu.

How To See Maps notifications or text messages on Share ETA

From the Share ETA panel in Maps, when someone shares their ETA to you, you will get notifications through the Maps app with the ability to follow your progress in real-time.
Even those without iOS have a message icon next to them, they will also receive your ETA over iMessage or SMS, getting a new message if you’re delayed.

However, to know if you have successfully shared your ETA, you will notice two different icons next to your contacts. These show that you have sent notifications to your contacts.

How To Share ETA from CarPlay with iOS 13

Those that use a Carplay will also be glad to use this feature. You will get a Share ETA button after starting directions, just like on your iPhone. The good news is that you can even use it in-car Maps menu to see the Share ETA panel. From here you will be able to send notifications to new contacts or tap to stop sharing with your current ones.

How To Automatically Share ETA for your favorite destinations

Apple has also made some changes, improving the favorite features in Maps for iOS 13, making them prominent. Right now you can automatically share your ETA with certain contacts whenever you navigate to certain places.

This is great, for example, you can automatically share your arrival with your spouse whenever you’re getting home. To enable this feature on your iPhone, open the Maps and tap ‘See All’ next to your Favorites.

Now find the relevant Favorite location and select the ‘i’ button next to it. Scroll down and look for ‘Add Person’ under the Share ETA heading.

Share ETA doesn’t work on your iPhone? Here’s what to do

One thing or another could stop the Share ETA from working on your iPhone. When that happens, you will notice that your contact is not getting any notification when you share your ETA with them. Or the arrival time will not be accurate or worst of it all, you might not even see the Share ETA button at all.

Whatever the problem is, below, we will be showing you the working solution to fix this

Method 1: Update your software

Remember that the Share ETA is a brand new feature that was released alongside iOS 13. The Share ETA was later removed on the iOS 13 because of some bugs that come from the version.

However, we now have the new iOS 13.1.2 which seems to work fine now. So make sure you have the latest update on your iPhone. If you are using an older iPhone like the iPhone 6 or below, sorry you can’t enjoy this Share ETA.

You should upgrade to iPhone 7 or later which you can even get at an affordable price. Below is how to check if your iPhone is running on the latest iOS version.

Step 1: Make sure your iPhone is connected to s wifi or an active internal connection.
Step 2: Now go to Settings > General > Software Update.
Step 3: Download and install the update if available

Method 2: Turn on Location Services

We understand you can still use the maps without turning location services on, the thing here is that the app can’t find where you are in real-time. So you won’t be able to Share ETA without Location Services. Make sure your location services are on by following the steps below.

Step 1: Open Settings > Privacy > Location Services.
Step 2: Now turn on ‘Location Services’ at the top of the screen.
Step 3: Next scroll down and set Maps to use Location Services ‘While Using the App.’

Method 3: Turn off your Screen Time restrictions

We can’t say for sure, but Content & Privacy Restrictions might stop the ETA from working properly. So you should try turning off any restrictions you have on your iPhone settings for the main time.

Step 1: Open Settings > Screen Time
Tap allows Apps
Now Add Maps to your list of always-allowed apps.
Step 2: Tap on Communication Limits:
Set Allowed Communication to ‘Everyone’ during allowed screen time.
Also set Allowed Communication to ‘Everyone’ during downtime.
Step 3: Open Content & Privacy Restrictions:
Then turn off Content & Privacy Restrictions at the top of the screen.
Check if this fixes the Share ETA on your device.

Method 4: Set your Date & Time automatically

Make sure that your date and time are accurate. Incorrect date and time might cause issues with maps and other applications on your iPhone. To be on the safe side, it’s recommendable that you set your date and time automatically.

Step 1: Navigate to Settings > General > Date & Time.
Step 2: Turn on “Set Automatically”.

Method 5: Test the Internet connection on your iPhone

You need a strong and active internet connection for Share ETA to work properly on your phone. Without Data and enough service to send SMS, share ETA will not work.

Step 1: Turn off Wi-Fi and load a fresh webpage in Safari to test your cellular data.
Step 2: Open Settings > Cellular Data and turn on cellular data for Maps.
Step 3: Check if you have a stable service on your iPhone before using the Share ETA.

Method 6: Double-check your contact details

Make sure that the phone number on the contact you selected is the correct one. If you have the wrong phone number, there’s no how the contact will get notifications. So you should check the contact and double-check the address details of the contact.

Step 1: Launch the Contacts or Phone app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Locate the contact you tried sending Share ETA notifications.
Step 3: Check to be sure if the contact details are accurate and up to date.

Method 7: Ask your contact to check their settings

Maybe the problem might be from the receiver not from your end. To be sure, ask the person you want to Share ETA with to check the following settings on their phone.

  • They should look for notifications in the Messages app, instead of WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or any other instant messaging services.
  • They should update their iPhone to the latest version that is if they have one.
  • They should go to Settings > Notifications > Maps > Allow Notifications.

Method 8: Quit Maps and restart your iPhone.

It’s another good idea to quit the Maps app and then restart your phone. If the Share ETA isn’t working on your iPhone, then it’s time to restart your device. To restart your device, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Double click on the Home button or swipe up from the bottom of the screen to view all your open apps.
Step 2: Now push each app off the top of the screen to quit it, including Maps.
Step 3: After that, click on the home page or swipe up to return to the Home screen.
Step 4: Then press and hold the Side button with either Volume button, then slide to power off when prompted.
Step 5: Wait for 30 seconds and then press to side button to restart your iPhone.

Method 9: Make sure Apple Maps is available in your country

It’s not new that Apple Maps is not available in some countries. Although with time they may extend their maps worldwide. So without much time, you should check the list of available countries here.

Other Ways To Share ETA From iPhone

If the Apple Maps is not available in your country or still it’s not working properly, there are other ways to share your ETA from your iPhone. The little downside here is that none of these methods update people with your ETA.

Share location with Find My

The new find my friend in iOS is even more useful and important. iPhone has combined this to make it easy to locate your friend and your iPhone as well. With Find my friend app, you can share your current location with anyone.

Step 1: Open Find My Friend app and go to the People tab.
Step 2: Tap on the Start Sharing Location or Share My Location.
Step 3: Look for a particular contact and tap Send.
Step 4: Next choose how long you want to share your location with that person.
Step 5: Your contact can now follow your location through the Find My app on their Apple own device.

Share your location with iMessage

The iMessage also enables you to send a snapshot of your current location or invite contacts to follow your real-time location from the iMessage app. This is another easy way to share your location with friends and family.

Step 1: Open the conversation with your contact in the Messages app.
Step 2: Look at the top of the screen and tap their name then tap the ‘i’ button.
Step 3: Then choose how to share your location:
