Turn Off Camera Sound on iPhone X / XS / XS Max / XR

The Live photo feature that is added on iPhone makes the camera sound that played when a picture was taken disappeared. This feature is beneficial because a Live Photo captures a few seconds of sound while recording a picture, and then the plays the shutter sound. So if you use Live Photos, toggle the feature on and off in the Camera app. When the feature is toggle On, you won’t hear any sound.

To activate the Live Photo feature, go to Settings > Camera > Preserve Settings and turn on the Live Photo toggle switch. After that, you can exit the Settings app and go to the Camera app. If the Live photo is enabled and the camera app is on, you won’t hear any shutter sound. The live photo is activated by default.

To temporarily turn off Live Photo within the Camera app, just tap the icon at the top of the camera screen. When the three circles are yellow, Live Photo is turned on and the shutter sound is suppressed. And when the three circles are white with a slash, Live Photo is turned off for the duration of that photography session.

Alternatives to Turn off Camera Sound on iPhone X / XS / XS Max / XR

If you don’t want to turn on the Live Photo feature but want to turn off the camera shutter sound on your iPhone, you can do that using two methods.

MUTE THE IPHONE RINGER

This is an alternative way you can use to turn off the camera sound on your device. To silence, your iPhone, toggle the switch on the left side of the phone until it shows orange. Yes, turning off the iPhone ringer mutes sounds and gives you a silent camera when taking pictures.

TURN VOLUME DOWN IN CONTROL CENTER

This is another method you can use as well. To keep the iPhone ringer and the camera sound off, go to the Control Center and slide the volume down near zero.
