How To Put Your iPhone or iPad Into DFU Mode

If you want to update from an expired beta, or you even need a solution when nothing is working, just know that Apple has a solution or vital information on that. Note that putting your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad into Device Firmware Update (DFU) mode may be your best, last hope for success.

DFU mode is the best mode just because it will help you get your phone back into good working condition, it will also help to put your iPhone into a state where it can still communicate with iTunes on Windows or Mac and it can be restored, but just know that it won’t be able to trip the bootloader or iOS., if in case your software has become royally booked.

This is very important because it allows your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch to be restored from any state. DFU modes require a bit of timing and can take practice to get a right, very important point to be noted You may not be able to succeed at first, don’t be afraid, don’t even get tired to try again.

How to put your iPad into DFU mode.

When you plug in the listed above iPhones into your Mac or PA, take note of all these procedures below.

Make sure that your iTunes is running.                                                              Remember to turn off your iPhone XR, iPhone XS and XS Max if it isn’t.
Press the Volume up button and release.
Press the volume down button and release.
Press and hold the side button until the power off button appear.
Press and hold the side button of your iPhone at least for 3 seconds.

While you are still holding the side button, press and hold down the volume down button on the left side of your iPhone.                                                                                    Try to hold both buttons down at least for 10 seconds.
If you notice the Apple logo, just know that you have held them down for so long. That means that you need to try again.
Release only the On and Off button by the side but still hold the volume down button for extra 5 seconds. If you notice Plug into iTunes screen, then you have held it long and you need to try again.

Note that the timing can be tricky so don’t be quick to get tired to try again. If the screen is now black, just know that you have succeeded in putting it into DFU mode. At this stage, the iTunes on your computer should have detected an iPhone and allow it to restore. When you are in DFU mode, you can downgrade.

 How to put your iPad Pro 2018 into DFU mode

Having been known of the 3rd generation iPad Pro (2018) that removed the Home Button and Touch ID in exchange for Face ID, like the newer iPhone model. Now getting into DFU mode is almost the same with an iPhone X series.

Plugin your iPad Pro 2018 into your Mac or PC.
Open iTunes.
Now make sure that the iPad Pro is turned off.
After that quickly press and release the volume up button.
You now quickly press and release the volume down button.
You now press and hold the Power button until the Power slider appears.
You will now drag the slider to Power the iPad Pro off.
You must press and hold the power button for 3 seconds.

While you are still holding the Power button, also press and hold down the volume button.
You have to hold the button at least for 10 seconds. Now if the Apple logo appears, just know that you have held it for too long and you now need to try again.

Release the side button but you have to continue to hold the volume button for like 5 seconds. Point to be noted, if the Plug iTunes screen comes on also know that you have held the button for so long and need to try again. Now if the screen remains black, just know that your iPad Pro is successfully in DFU mode.

How To Put Your iPhone 8 and iPhone X into DFU Mode:

Having known the reassignment of more common button combinations to Apple Sosa mode, DFU mode is a little bit different on the iPhone 8 and iPhone X than the previous generations. Now, this is how to do it!

Plug your iPhone 8 or iPhone X into your Mac or PC.
Always make sure your iTunes is running.
Turn off your iPhone 8 or iPhone X.
Then press and hold down the On and Off button on the right-hand side of your iPhone for 3 seconds.
Also, press and hold down the volume down button on the left side of your iPhone while still holding down the On and Off.
Keep holding the button at least for 10 seconds, remember if the Apple logo comes on just know that you held it for too long and need to try again.

Now leave the On and Off button but keep holding the volume down button for about 5 seconds. If the screen is now black, you did it! Your iPhone is now in DFU mode. At this point, iTunes suppose to show you an alert saying it has detected your iPad or iPod touch and will allow it to be restored.
