How to find friends on Snapchat

If you’re just starting out on Snapchat (yes, there are people who haven’t caught the Snapchat bug yet, and that isn’t all that bad), it’s not all that easy to quickly gather new friends or followers.

Luckily, there are ways to finding friends on Snapchat, and we’re here to talk about that. Here are some of the ways you can find friends on Snapchat.

Find your friend’s Username

One thing you can’t do on Snapchat is adding friends using email addresses. That would have been so much easier, but Snapchat wants to put the “social” in social media.

This means you’d have to trade usernames with someone you wish to be friends with (provided that person isn’t on your contacts’ list before). You’d need to ask (sorry, if you’re an introvert!) for the username: and note, that username isn’t the same thing as display name, so if you’re asking, make sure it’s the username you’re getting.

After you’ve acquired the username, you’d need to add them to your account; to do that, tap on the Discover icon (found at the bottom right of the camera screen). Click on “Add by username” and type in the full, correct username of your Snapchat friend-to-be. Tap on the “+Add” button next to the user and Presto! It is done, and all you have to do is wait to be added back by the person.

Use a Snapchat URL

If you think it would be too tedious to manually ask for usernames, you could just get a link to your friend’s profile. Those are easier to share, and would open up the friend’s profile directly when you tap on them.

You would still need to have your Snapchat friend-to-be send you the link via text or email though, and the link would look like: https://www.snapchat.com/add/username
If you have the link, all you’ve just got to do is tap on it; it would try to take you into the Snapchat app (you’d have to select Open Snapchat to go through), and there, you add up the friend. You’d then wait to be added back before you both can send Snaps to each other and see your Stories.

If you want to get and share your own Snapchat URL, easy: just swipe down in the Snapchat camera screen, and tap on “Add Friends” and then “Share Username
From there, you can choose whatever app you wish to share the URL through, be it messages app, or your email client.
