How To Disable Twitter’s “News For You” Notifications

Are you getting weird ‘News for you’ notifications on Twitter? You are in the right place, I must say is because Twitter has recently launched a new news-related feature. One of them includes the sending of push notifications to most users about news based on their interest. However, the alerts are annoying and aren’t personalized at all (as of now).

For example, most people have been receiving news notifications update about football when they haven’t watched a single football match ever in their lives. While Twitter calls these notifications ‘News for you’, in reality, it doesn’t seems, like they are actually for us.

I must say if you are also worried by these updates, you can now turn them off following the Twitter settings. Here’s what you need to do.

Step 1: Click and open the Twitter app and click the profile picture icon at its top-left corner. The navigation drawer will then open. Alternatively, flip right from the left edge of the screen.

 

Step 2: In the navigation drawer, click on its Privacy Settings and. On the next screen, click on Notifications.

Step 3: Under the Notifications, click on the Push notifications.

Step 4: move down in Push notifications and you are going to see the News from twitter heading. And here you are going to find the News option. Then uncheck it to turn off that annoying News for your notifications.

Also In case of the iPhone, you will need to set the News slider to off.

Just this simple thing you need to do in other to turn off this irritating alert. However, just in case you are still receiving News for your notifications, we have some quick fixes that might resolve the issue.

TROUBLESHOOTER

  1. You have to Restart Device

Most time just an easy reboot of the device helps in fixing major issues. We would suggest you restart your device, be it an iPhone or Android device.

2. You have to Clear Cache (Android)

If you are making use of an Android user, clearing the cache will also help with the notification issue. All you have to do is to clear the cache for the Twitter app.

Here are some steps to do the same.

Step 1: you have to open your device Settings and go to Apps/Apps & Notifications/App Manager.

Step 2: Then Look for the Twitter app it will be under All apps. Click on it. On the App info screen, click on Storage.

Step 3: You are going to find two buttons: the Clear storage and Clear cache. Click on the second one.

Step 4: click on the Force stop button. And that’s all. We hope that Twitter doesn’t bother you anymore with these notifications now.

  1. Log out From the App

If still receiving this notification even after you have followed the above two solutions, you will log out from the app. In other to do so, follow these steps below.

Step 1: Click on the profile picture icon in other to open the navigation drawer or by swiping right. Then click on Settings and Privacy.

Step 2: Click on Account. At the next screen, please scroll down and click on the Log out. Then, log in again.

BONUS NOTIFICATION TIPS

Tip 1: You have to Turn Off your Twitter Recommendations

Apart from it News for your notifications, the twitter will also send Popular in your network and Highlights notifications. If you have never subscribed to them, in order, doing that, based on the Push notification settings, look for Popular in your network and Highlights. Click on them in other to disable them.

Tip 2: Use it Advanced Filters

In other to enhance your Twitter experience further, you can mute notifications based on a very wide variety of filters. For example, you can actually mute notifications from people who haven’t confirmed their personal email address. These profiles are most times trolls and it also helps to eliminate such notifications.

Applying the notification filter, follow these steps:

Step 1: Click to open the Twitter app and click on the profile picture icon. From the navigation drawer, please choose Settings and Privacy.

Step 2: Click on the Notifications followed by advanced filters.

Step 3:  In this process, you will get multiple filters. Checking the box next to the filter that you might want to apply. Once you have done that, you will not receive notifications from such profiles again.
