How to Cancel Amazon Prime Membership

Amazon, being one of the biggest online retail conglomerates, has a comprehensive membership program for its customers. Amazon Prime is the program that gives customers benefits such as free two-day shipping on a wide range of products, accesses to stream a lot of original movies and TV shows, free Kindle books and so much more.

All of these does come at a price: Amazon Prime is a paid membership program that costs $119 a year (or $12.99 per month).

For a lot of people, it is a fair price to pay for all the benefits they’d be getting, but Amazon Prime doesn’t offer much in the way of value for some others.

For those people, the fact that they rarely shop all year round defeats the point of paying per year; that, coupled with the fact that Amazon has already raised the price (by $20) means that these sets of people would likely want to cancel membership at some point.

We would be highlighting the steps to canceling your Amazon Prime if you’re hoping to be out of the service.

How to cancel your Amazon Prime membership

Firstly, canceling your Amazon Prime membership is easier than you might think. All you’ve got to do is log in to your Amazon account, and select “Your Prime Membership” that’s located under “Accounts & Lists” drop-down menu.

On the left side of the screen, you’ll find “End Membership and Benefits” as an option; click on that link and confirm you want to cancel your membership. As easy as that!

It would be helpful to know what really happens when you cancel your Amazon Prime membership. There is a high likelihood that you wouldn’t be getting a refund of your membership fee after you cancel the membership.

However, you could get a refund if you’re canceling your membership within three days after signing up or within three days after converting from a free trial member to a paid member; although Amazon would still charge you for the Prime benefits you’ve enjoyed during that time frame.

Also, you could get a refund of your membership fee if you haven’t used any of the Prime benefits. For those people who paid the membership fee, and a few weeks down the line realized they would like to cancel, it’s nice to know they can get a refund of their membership fee.

That is also subject to the fact that you haven’t used any of the Prime benefits.

Also, if you think the $119-per-year membership fee is too steep, or you don’t shop very often on Amazon Prime, there are a number of ways to be a member for less. You could choose the $12.99 monthly option, which is perfect for if you make your shopping at specific months in the year (mostly festive seasons). You save money in the long run, even though the plan costs more over the entire year.

You can also take advantage of the free-trails which Amazon offers; could range from 30 days to 6 months, depending on how you wish to use their services. For students, the membership fee is reduced too.
