How To Block Robocalls And Spam Calls On Android & iPhone

Spam calls are a pain most of the time, and while network providers and the telecommunications commissions might try to help you block out most of the pesky calls, they just keep coming.

There is a way to take matters into your own hands, and get rid of this issue. You could report Robocalls and Spam calls to the telecommunications commission in your country, but they won’t particularly act upon your request.

Instead, they would put you through the steps of registering for the “do not disturb” feature. When that doesn’t work, there are other methods you can actually take yourself.

This post would be highlighting these methods so that you can be free from Robocalls, or at least, have control over them.

How to Block Robocalls and Spam calls

1. For iOS users

If you’re using an iPhone, and the scourge of spam calls is hitting you hard, there is a way you can actually block the source of the calls (the specific number, that is).

Go to your Phone app, tap on the Recent calls icon. Now, tap on the Info icon next to the spamming number, and tap on the link which says Block this Caller. At the confirmation message, tap Block Contact; it’s done, that number won’t be spamming you anymore.

2. For Android users

If you use an Android device, blocking a number varies based on the make of your phone, and the version of Android it is running.

But basically, all you need to do is to go into your Phone app, and from the Recent Calls screen, look for more options under the number you wish to block; you should be able to find Block Number or Block/Report Number. Confirm the consequent message requesting for you to confirm if you really want to block the number.

Once this is done, you won’t be receiving spam calls from that number anymore.

3. Third-party Apps

There are a lot of third-party apps available to both Android and iOS device users and are good to use for when you aren’t sure of the source of the spam calls and Robocalls you’ve been getting.

One of such applications is Nomorobo. This app would try to clamp down on Robocalls and spam calls by going through the blacklist of your phone contacts. It would also protect you against spam text messages and block ads from the websites you visit. Nomorobo is available to Android and iOS users; it costs $1.99 per month, but it’s got a free two-week free trial.

Another very popular third-party app that could be used, is Truecaller. The app would scan all incoming calls and text messages, and try to figure out where they come from. It would automatically block unwanted calls based on a known list of spammers; you can also add numbers to the list as well. It’s even got an extra feature of allowing you to make phone calls directly from the app so that you can easily identify what number you’re trying to call. Truecaller is basically free to download, but you would be required to pay $1.99 a month (or $17.99 a year) to remove the ads and enjoy the extra features.
