10 Best Free Emoji Apps for Android in 2023

Emoji are all the rage nowadays, especially among Android users. Nowadays, it’s almost impossible to chat with an Android user without emojis making an appearance or two. Sometimes, though, the stock emojis just isn’t enough! It can be hard to find emojis that fit your needs and make you laugh at the same time.

Fortunately, there are tons of fantastic emoji apps out there that make searching for and sending emojis a breeze! These are the 10 best free emoji apps out there in 2022!

What is an emoji?

Emoji are symbols and images used to express an idea, such as a feeling or reaction, that don’t require words. The word emoji is a combination of the Japanese words and meaning picture, moji meaning character, and the last syllable je which means letter.

They are not new by any means. One of the earliest digital emojis appeared in 1986 on a Royal Electric typewriter. It was a ‘smiley’ face made up of keyboard characters: 🙂 . But this isn’t what we call emoji today. More like an emoticon.

In Japan in 1999, NTT Docomo had the first mobile phone with full-color display and camera – capable of showing two-frame animations called ’emoji’. Emoji really took off when Apple released iOS 8 with built-in support for them!

1. Facemoji

There are over 1000 emoji and emoticons that can be accessed through this app.

3. Gboard

Google has now released its version of an emoji keyboard on Android. The app, called Gboard, has a lot of nifty features but the standout is how well it integrates the current trend of emojis into typing. With just a tap or two you can change your words to show an animated smiley face instead of spelling out what you want to say.

The keyboard also lets you type with one hand which is perfect for those who are holding onto something and need to type without letting go. It’s currently only available as an Android beta, but there’s no word yet on when it will be available to all. If you have the latest version of iOS, then this might not be a problem since Apple introduced their own emoji keyboard last year as part of iOS 8.

4. Mirror Emoji Maker

There are several other good apps out there that do the same job, but Mirror Emoji Maker is one of our favorites because it’s easy to use and has really great graphics. You’ll also like the fact that this app has a built-in GIF generator so you can send gifs with your message without opening a second app.

Definitely worth checking out! If you’re not sure which emoji to choose, try the four-pack where you have random selections from across all categories.

There are hundreds of emoji to choose from – just tap on an emoji category and browse through them all.

There’s something for everyone!

It also has an optional ad blocker that removes ads from other apps. It can also be used as a standard keyboard on any device.

6. Microsoft SwiftKey

Microsoft’s SwiftKey is one of the most popular third-party keyboards on Android and iOS. It has been built with predictions and artificial intelligence, which can detect what you’re typing text and offer suggestions to finish your sentence or word.

Microsoft released an updated version of the keyboard earlier this year that added new gestures and personalized learning. You’ll need a paid subscription to download the latest versions, but there are still plenty of free options available.
